ESA Board appointment

ESA recently advertised for two further Directors to be appointed to the Board. These appointments were to be made in accordance with a particular skill set requirement.

The Board received and considered a number of high quality expressions of interest.

During the selection process one of the current ESA Directors declared a conflict of interest with an applicant and therefore left the room and was not involved in that part of the selection process. As a matter of good governance and transparency the Director was asked to consider their position should the applicant be successful.

The Board agreed that given the perceived conflict of interest the Director should be asked to consider resigning as the applicant was successful and the applicant's skill set was directly relevant to a skill gap identified by the Board.

The Director noted that although it was a perceived conflict of interest the Constitution was silent on this matter.

Accordingly, the Director has now resigned from the Board.

We applaud the Director, Veronica Hannam, for making this decision, which has been made in the best interest of the Board and ESA. The Board would like to thank Veronica for her contribution, knowledge and input and we express our respect for her abilities. With volunteers of this calibre ESA should thrive in the future.

After due consideration we are pleased to announce Craig Hannam has been successful in being appointed to the Board.

We congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working with him.
