Update on Review of Discipline Committees
At a Board meeting on 18 March 2020 the Terms of Reference setting out how the review of the Discipline Committees would be undertaken was unanimously agreed upon by the Board. The TOR were finalised for distribution with input from all Board Members on 1 April 2020.
Amongst other things, the TOR provided for confidential submissions to be made by present and past members. Those submissions were received by the Chair, and forwarded to the Review Committee with the names redacted.
The Review Committee received 39 submissions in total, slightly more than half related to the Show Horse Discipline. The Board has a duty of confidentiality and recognise those who made submissions only did so as they were assured that their submissions would remain confidential.
The Review Committee, in the process of fulfilling the Terms of Reference, may well decide to select, at random, members or past members, to further understand the operational position of each Discipline Committee. The random selection will be made by the Independent Chair and selected members will be asked if they wish to take part in a discussion. In the case of Show Horse, 7 individuals were chosen who represent the spectrum of membership in that discipline and all agreed to take part. Of course confidentiality will be maintained.
The result of the Show Horse Review has been announced.
The Review Committee is now proceeding with Dressage and Eventing and will progressively review all disciplines.
Wendy Schaeffer has removed herself from the Review Committee for the Eventing Discipline Committee Review, due to her personal relationship with the Chair.
