Update - Office for Recreation, Sport & Racing

This morning the Premier announced an update to the South Australian Roadmap for Easing COVID-19 Restrictions (the Roadmap).

South Australia will now plan to move to Step 2 of the Roadmap on Friday 5 June 2020 rather than 8 June as previously advised.

For sport and recreation this will mean that Step 2 restrictions will still apply, however, they will come into effect earlier from 5 June. Please note that the Roadmap is a guide to when and what restrictions may be eased.

From 5 June 2020, in accordance with Step 2 of the Roadmap, we are expecting:

  • Sport can transition to competition without spectators.
  • Gyms and indoor fitness venues can open.
  • Groups of 20 maximum will be permitted.
  • Density (1 person per 4sqm) and social distancing (1.5m spacing) requirements will still apply.

Level 2 of the SA Roadmap permits sport to transition to competition from 5 June 2020. However, it must be noted that moving to Step 2 is subject to the State Co-ordinator updating the Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 5) (COVID-19) Direction 2020(the Directions), subject to public health performance of the situation at the time.

Therefore, until the Directions are updated, the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing is unable to provide you with certainty that your return to competition strategies will be permitted from 5 June 2020. Therefore, the Office encourages you to refer to 5 June 2020 as a date to start transitioning back to competition, not a date to recommence your competition.

I encourage you to email [email protected] if you have any questions.
