Update to COVID Restrictions - 19 June 2020

As of 19 June 2020, South Australia has transitioned to Step 2 ‘Plus’ of the South Australian Roadmap for Easing COVID-19 Restrictions (the Roadmap). To implement Step 2 ‘Plus’ of the Roadmap, the State Co-ordinator has updated the relevant Public Activities COVID-19 Direction 2020 no 2 which South Australians are bound by.

Key points for the sport and recreation sector to note include:

Maximum occupancy requirements

  • Up to 300 people are now permitted in a place (as a whole) with up to 75 people permitted in a single room or enclosed area within the place.
  • If two different defined public activities are undertaken in adjacent places (e.g. dining in a clubhouse and playing of sport on an adjacent oval), you could have up to 300 people dining and another 300 people playing and/or watching at the adjacent oval.
  • Density requirement of 1 person per 4 square metres must be adhered to at all times.

Swimming pools

  • Up to 75 people are permitted in any one swimming pool.
  • Premises with multiple swimming pools may have up to 75 persons in each pool.
  • Each swimmer can be accompanied by no more than 1 caregiver who is not swimming (unless the swimmer has special needs, such as a disability that requires more than 1 caregiver to be present).
  • Density requirement of 1 person per 4 square metres must be adhered to at all times.

Indoor group classes

  • If space only allows for 1 person per 4 square metres, indoor groups fitness, dance, barre and yoga classes remain limited to 10 people.
  • If space allows for 1 person per 7 square metres, classes may have up to 20 people.
  • This does not include the people employed or engaged to work to run the activity.

Change rooms

  • Change rooms and toilets can be used, but no communal showers are to be made available.

COVID-Safe Plans

  • Organisations that have already submitted a COVID-Safe Plan will be emailed an automatic update today, that will apply the new capacity numbers using the dimensions of rooms and venues from your original plan.
  • If you have not yet submitted a COVID-Safe Plan or will only reopen from 19 June, you should plan for re-opening and submit your COVID Safe Plan.
