Local Sporting Champions - Change to eligibility criteria

There has recently beeen an important change to the Local Sporting Champions (LSC) program that will help support junior athletes, coaches and officials attending your competitions. 

The LSC program provides funding of between $500 and $750 for athletes, coaches or officials aged between 12 and 18 attending specific eligible competitions.  Eligible competitions are National Sporting Organisation (NSO) or School Sport, State or National Championships, and International events where the applicant is part of the official NSO or School Sport Australia National team.  

Recently, the eligibility criteria for the LSC program was expanded to allow applications to be submitted up to one month after the completion of the eligible competition. Your organisation and associated state bodies are encouraged to promote the program at all eligible State and National championships.  Advising all participants of this change will ensure all eligible participants have the opportunity to apply for the program.

In the coming months, Sport Australia will develop a suite of templates and resources to allow sports to promote the program before, during and after the eligible competition.  We understand the current COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in the postponement and cancellation of many sporting competitions, and Sport Australia will work towards having these resources available for when competitions re-commence for distribution to families involved in eligible championships.
